Though I do enjoy seeing/watching the cool equipment, full on parades like that are awfully nationalistic, (North Korea, Soviet Union, Mussolini, Hitler...) Base open houses I think are a better way to handle that kind of thing.  That said, when your neighbor is the trumpster maybe it’s not such a bad idea...

The Mexican Armed Forces have always played an important role in disaster relief (also during Katrina iirc) All of this because local and state authorities in Mexico have been, historically, always bad at it. So the army has always taken their place during huracanes, droughts, etc. The biggest failure of the army was during the 1985 earthquake, but that was as much the fault of the army as it was of the incompetent president.
